WHAT IS KYBELLA?

KYBELLA®  (deoxycholic acid) is the only FDA-approved injectable cosmetic treatment that destroys fat cells in the treatment area under the chin to improve your profile. KYBELLA® is a prescription medicine used  in men and women to improve the appearance of moderate to severe fat below the chin also called “double chin.”

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT KYBELLA?

Kybella was approved for FDA in 2015, and is the a non-surgical, minimally-invasive, injectable treatment option for submental fullness, commonly referred to as a “double chin.” Submental fullness can result in an older or heavier appearance because of its effect on facial balance and proportion.

Kybella works by breaking down unwanted fat cells. Those cells can’t store or accumulate fat. Maintaining a stable weight will keep the surrounding fat cells in check and protect your new look.

Kybella offers long-term benefits. You shouldn’t need more treatments after you’ve achieved your desired level of fat reduction.

HOW IS KYBELLA USED?

The main ingredient in Kybella is a synthetic form of a substance naturally produced by the body — deoxycholic acid. When a proffesional injects Kybella into your submental area (your chin) it kills fat cells, reducing the appearance of a double chin. Once it’s injected into the chin area, the deoxycholic acid gets to work, destroying fat cells and inhibiting their ability to store fat.

You can get up to six Kybella injections, spaced at least a month apart, for maximum results. However, most people get two treatments. The treatments should be spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart. This type of procedure is called injection lipolysis.

WHAT IS KYBELLA TREAT?

Kybella treatments are quick and easy because it’s a nonsurgical treatment.

The safe and effective use of KYBELLA® depends on the use of the correct number and locations for injections, proper needle placement, and administration techniques.

Healthcare professionals administering KYBELLA® must understand the relevant submental anatomy and associated neuromuscular structures in the area involved and any alterations to the anatomy due to prior surgical or aesthetic procedures.

Needle placement with respect to the mandible is very important as it reduces the potential for injury to the marginal mandibular nerve, a motor branch of the facial nerve. Injury to the nerve presents as an asymmetrical smile due to paresis of lip depressor muscles.

Fat cells removed during Kybella treatments are permanently destroyed. However, your skin and facial structure can still change over time as the result of factors such as weight gain and aging.

WHAT BENEFITS CAN I GET WITH KYBELLA TREAT?

Kybella provides many advantages compared to other cosmetic treatments, including:
