Sculptra

WHAT IS SCULPTRA?

Sculptra  Aesthetic , is a proprietary formulation of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) that is an FDA-approved on August 3, 2004, for the treatment of facial fat loss (also called facial lipoatrophy). Sculptra is referred to as a biostimulatory filler a synthetic gel comprised of the same lactic acid that occurs naturally in the body. What this means is a filler that stimulates your skin to produce collagen and renew the extracellular matix. This injectable helps gradually replace lost collagen—the most common protein in the body that is used to form a framework to support cells and tissue for results that can last up to two years.

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT SCULPTRA?

Sculptra Aesthetic has been on the market for years and is still actively used today. It is different from all other products specifically because it is a bioactivator not a filler, but can have significant and lasting results. Sculptra works by stimulating the body’s natural collagen production.

It’s important to know a few things about the Sculptra:

It is not recommended use Sculptra around your eyes. Because of possible bump formation.

Sculptra should not be used in lips, tear troughs or superficial wrinkles. Because Sculptra is not a filler, and more of a medication, it should never be used in the lips, tear troughs or to treat fine lines because it may result in problems such as nodules under the skin.

Sculptra is a bioactivator, not a filler. Sculptra must be diluted prior to use. The patient will reabsorb the diluent and the “fullness” in the treated area will disappear.

HOW IS SCULPTRA USED?

Sculptra is safe and effective for all skin types and skin colors and is ideal for smoothing out medium to deep facial wrinkles, folds, and sunken areas. Sculptra is an injectable cosmetic filler that can be used to restore facial volume lost due to aging or illness. It contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible synthetic substance that stimulates collagen production.

It’s also used to treat facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) in people living with HIV.

There are many areas that the Sculptra solution can be injected. The most common areas are marionette lines, chin wrinkles, and smile lines. Sculptra can also be used to define the jaw line and to add volume to hollowing cheeks or temples. These injections are meant to add volume to shallow areas of the skin and to smooth out wrinkles.

WHAT IS SCULPTRA TREAT?

Sculptra treatments are fast and relatively painless. Typically, a local or topical anesthetic is first applied to eliminate any discomfort.

To prepare for a Sculptra procedure, avoid harsh interaction with the treatment area, such as tweezing, waxing, or bleaching.

Collagen is a fibrous protein that gives support to the structure of the skin. Collagen also supports hyaluronic acid, which helps the skin to retain moisture, and elastin, that helps to maintain firm, tight skin. By the age of forty many individuals have already lost twenty percent of their collagen. The Sculptra solution is injected below the skin and collagen is gradually produced over the course of a few weeks. Volume in the treatment areas becomes noticeable over this time period. It is often necessary to repeat the injections a few times over the course of three to four months to achieve desired results. These results can last for up to two years. The results of Sculptra are usually softer and more natural than other dermal injections.

WHAT BENEFITS CAN I GET WITH SCULPTRA TREAT?

Sculptra is used to diminish facial wrinkles and folds and has been clinically approved to treat smile lines and other wrinkles around the nose and mouth as well as chin wrinkles.

Sculptra has a lot of benefic, including:

  • Nonsurgical butt lift or buttock augmentation

  • Correction of cellulite

  • Correction of chest, elbow, and knee wrinkles

Sculptra has also become a popular choice for those looking to bulk up their appearance. It’s being used to create definition and the look of extra muscle mass on the: glutes, thighs, biceps, triceps, pectorals.

Wrinkles: From horizontal forehead lines to parentheses around the mouth (aka marionette lines), Sculptra can help lift and smooth out deep creases that develop with age. The more you have, the better the results.

Volume: For patients with thin cheeks, Sculptra can boost your face’s structure and provide ample volume so you look younger overall.

Weak Skin: If your face is especially weak and sagging, Sculptra can help rebuild the underlying muscle structure of your face for a smoother, more youthful appearance.

A Comprehensive Rejuvenation: By spurring collagen production, this dermal filler works to repair the underlying scaffolding of the face, which offers a host of cosmetic benefits.

Bony areas like the cheekbones, which sometimes develop more prominence as the skin thins with age, are softened. This filler can also plump up areas of the face that can become shallow over time, such as the temple.

Natural Results: Collagen development can take some time, so it may be several months before the improvements in the face fully take hold. But the gradual onset of results gives patients results that look more natural.

Long-Lasting Improvement: Because this filler essentially rebuilds the underlying infrastructure of the face by generating collagen, it offers results that last much longer than most other injectable.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF SCULPTRA TREAT?

Sculptra Aesthetic should not be used by individuals who are allergic to its ingredients, have a history of keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring, or are pregnant, lactating, or breastfeeding. Sculptra treatments are generally well tolerated and side effects are usually mild.
