PDO Threads

WHAT IS PDO THREADS?

PDO thread lift is a new treatment in the world of aesthetics, but PDO threads themselves have been used safely for decades for various applications, like treating gynecological disorders or suturing incisions after medical procedures. A PDO thread lift is a procedure that uses dissolvable sutures to rejuvenate and lift sagging skin.

This process provides ongoing and progressive rejuvenation for the facial tissues. Patients who have a thread lift for the purpose of stimulating collagen will notice a gradual improvement in their skin's tone and firmness.

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT PDO THREADS?

PDO thread lift is an anti-aging treatment that was approved by the FDA to tighten loose skin safely, effectively, and non-invasively. These threads comprise PDO thread lift, or polydioxanone, threads that can be absorbed by your skin safely. The great thing about these threads is they encourage collagen induction and neovascularisation. It is a non-surgical facelift where facial skin is lifted and tightened using Polydioxanone (PDO) threads.

Polydioxanone (PDO) thread lifts use a biodegradable polyester suture. They’re best suited for rejuvenating your skin while some newer types of thread lifts are better at lifting sagging skin.

HOW IS PDO THREADS USED?

There are three main types of PDO threads:

  • Mono threads are smooth threads without barbs. Many of these thread type is placed into the face in a mesh-like fashion for skin tightening effect. Smooth sutures that help rejuvenate your skin by stimulating collagen production.

  • Screw Threads /Tornado Threads can come in the form of one or two threads intertwined together around the inserting needle. Screw thread has a great effect on giving volume effect on sunken area of the skin. Multi Screw when intertwining two threads are used.

  • Cog threads are essentially mono threads with barbs to hook to the underside of the skin. The barbs form a support structure that lifts the sagging tissue.

Each type is designed for a slightly different treatment and use. Use tornado sutures in areas where greater volume is required, and mono threads as a mesh to support the tissue.

WHAT IS PDO THREADS TREAT?

This treatment is safe. It is approved by the FDA for safety and efficiency. During the procedure, PDO threads are embedded just beneath the surface of the skin with a cannula. Once inserted into the appropriate layer of skin, they act as anchors as the skin is lifted upwards. The introduction of the threads to the skin stimulates collagen production in the area which leads to increased volume and firmness over time.

PDO can treat virtually any area of the face. These include:

  • Marionette lines

  • Crow’s feet

  • Neck

  • Jowls

  • Jaw line

  • Naso jugal folds

  • Nasolabial folds

  • Cheeks

  • Undereye area

  • Eyebrows
